Proposition R Experience
Being the Treasurer for the Mehlville-Oakville United Committee was an amazing experience. When I volunteered to help with the pro-Prop R campaign, I had no idea how much I'd learn, how many great people I'd meet and work with, and how strongly our community would come together to support Prop R. The experience is one the most rewarding things I have ever done.
As the Treasurer, I was responsible for tracking contributions and expenses, reporting these to the Missouri Ethics Commission and learning about campaign ethics (which are the list of rules that campaigns have to follow). It probably sounds like a boring job, and parts of it are. However, the Treasurer also gets to manage the budget and that is the fun part. I got to be involved with our campaign strategy, lay out the options of what we could afford and work with the team to determine where to best spend our funds.
Another role I had was gathering and analyzing data. This gave me the opportunity to gain some great insight into the district budget, academic metrics and how we compare with peer school districts. It was very insightful to discuss the real world situations that explained the data trends with our team and district administration. The first step in making anything better is to know where we are starting and this factual data set was a key component of the Prop R campaign.
